The Heart Behind Dare to Connect

Desiree T. Coleman, LMFT

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with six years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. My style is warm, direct, and conversational. I believe therapy should feel human, collaborative, and honest—not like a clinical performance.

I specialize in working with BIPOC clients and couples navigating communication struggles, emotional disconnection, trust concerns, family-of-origin patterns, and the impact of stress on relationships. Much of my work focuses on helping people understand the cycle beneath the conflict, recognize the needs driving their reactions, and create healthier ways of connecting.

I am also completing advanced supervision training toward the AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation, with the goal of supporting developing Marriage and Family Therapists in strengthening their clinical voice, systemic thinking, and confidence in the work.

How I think about Therapy

A decorative hourglass with gold cracks filled with white sand beside text that reads 'Honoring the Breaks. Creating Something Stronger'.

Honor the Cracks. Understand the Pattern. Repair the Connection.

I see relationships through a both/and lens: people can love each other deeply and still become caught in painful patterns. Therapy helps us slow those patterns down, understand the fears and attachment needs beneath them, and create more emotionally safe ways of reaching for one another.

Like Kintsugi, the goal is not to hide the cracks or pretend the hurt never happened. We work to understand what caused the break, strengthen the places that need repair, and build practical habits of communication, trust, responsiveness, and connection.

Healing does not mean returning to who you were before. It means honoring what happened while creating a relationship—and a way of relating—that is more intentional, secure, and resilient.

Whether the work begins within yourself, between partners, or across a family, the goal is the same: understand the pattern, strengthen connection, and create a different way forward.
